EDITION 01 / EVERYDAY PRACTICE
The next step
can be small.
Some days, the distance between an intention and an action feels larger than it needs to be.
We imagine the finished project, the steady routine, the conversation we finally know how to begin. Then we compare that picture with the day in front of us. It can be hard to see a place to start.
Give the intention a shape.
Take one thing you want to move forward and make it specific. “I want more time for reflection” might become “After breakfast, I will sit quietly for two minutes.” A place and a moment can turn an intention into something you can try.
Leave room to notice.
Afterward, ask a simple question: did that help? Your answer is useful information. A practice can be shortened, moved to another part of the day, or changed. There is no need to turn every attempt into a verdict about yourself.
Choose an action small enough to begin, and meaningful enough to return to.
A practice for today
- Name one thing that matters to you today.
- Choose a small action connected to it.
- Decide when you will try it.
- Notice what worked, and what you would change.
That is enough for a beginning.
General reflection and planning. Choose what is useful for you.
